Classic 4-Ingredient Cucumber Sandwiches

The simplest, most elegant cucumber sandwich — just cream cheese, fresh cucumber, a pinch of salt, and soft white bread. Pure, classic, and perfect for any tea party or gathering.

Ingrédients

  • 1 large English cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 8 slices soft white bread
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt (or to taste)

How to Make Southern Cucumber Sandwiches

Season the cream cheese: Beat 4 ounces cream cheese, softened until completely smooth and spreadable. Season with 0.5 teaspoons salt (or to taste) and stir well. Taste and adjust salt as needed.
Prep the cucumber: Slice 1 large English cucumber, thinly sliced as thinly and evenly as possible — about ⅛ inch. Pat the slices dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture so the bread doesn’t get soggy.
Spread the bread: Spread a generous layer of the cream cheese mixture on each slice of 8 slices soft white bread. For a classic presentation, use a round biscuit cutter to cut circles from each slice, or simply trim the crusts and cut into fingers or triangles.
Assemble and serve: Arrange 2–3 overlapping cucumber slices on half the bread pieces. Top with the remaining bread or serve open-faced. Arrange on a platter and serve within 1–2 hours.
