How to Make an Excellent Substitute for Canned Cream Soup

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup milk (I used 1%)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Directions:

In a small sauce pan, melt butter over medium-low heat. Whisk in flour and let cook for 1-2 minutes. Slowly stir in chicken broth, then milk. Whisk until it begins to thicken. Let it simmer for a few minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

This recipe will be very thick because it’s a substitute for condensed soup. It’s not soup so it isn’t liquid.

For various flavors you can add ingredients, such as sauteed mushrooms, garlic, onion powder, celery, asparagus, etc.

Makes recipe makes the equivalent of one 10.75 oz can of soup.
