These rolls are JUST like the ones the cafeteria ladies make in the school lunch rooms! My 8-year-old daughter loves the cafeteria rolls and said my recipe was even better! You can’t mess these up! They are super easy and everyone will want the recipe. We eat the leftovers for breakfast or put cheese and turkey in warmed rolls for a quick lunch! These rolls are JUST like the ones the cafeteria ladies make in the school lunch rooms! You can’t mess these up! They are super easy and everyone will want the recipe. I was so happy with the way these rolls turned out. I made two small changes, one wasn’t even on purpose but it simplified the process. That is what I call a happy accident! I made the rolls again today and took a picture of each step. If you are an old pro at making rolls just skip down to the bottom for the entire recipe. Otherwise, follow me. Once you see the steps you will be a pro!

Ingredients:

  • 1 qt warm water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup powdered milk
  • 1 cup oil
  • 1 Tbs salt
  • 2 pkgs yeast
  • 7-9 cups All purpose flour

Instructions:
Combine water, yeast, and sugar to dissolve yeast. In a separate bowl combine milk, salt, and about 5 cups of flour. When yeast dissolves add the oil and pour into the dry mixture. Add flour a little at a time till it gets to the right consistency. You don’t want it too sticky but you also don’t want it to heavy. Allow to rise double in size. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until you get the coloring you want.
Use this for rolls, buns, loafs, pizza crust, or pig in a blankets. Enjoy and I hope it takes to back to your school days.
